Business Insider reports this week about a possible new chicken sandwich coming to McDonald’s later in the year. Writing about a recent earnings call by the brand’s CEO Chris Kempczinski, the head honcho touched on new menu items coming down the road in 2020.
BI quotes Kempczinski as saying, “I do know that there is innovation that is planned for later this year that’s going to bring some menu items on.” Speculation from industry analysts suggest some of that innovation might be in the form of a chicken sandwich – to join the ongoing chicken sandwich wars, ala Popeye’s and Chik-fil-A.
Many fast food chains have slashed menus to become leaner and smarter operations during the Covid-19 crisis; many are now looking where they can add real innovation and sales back to their trimmed down menu boards. It goes without saying, chicken is THE hot item this year.
